Laws of Loot

16 Nov

Ran across this on the official forums in a QQ thread about how bad the random loot is in 5 man Heroic ToC.  I made a couple of slight adjustments to reflect reality as I know it:

Krym’s Rules of Loot Droppage

Rule 1:

If you need it, it won’t drop.

Rule 2:

When it drops, you won’t need it.

Rule 3:

If it drops, and you need it, you won’t win it.

Rule 4:

If it drops, and you need it, some Death Knight will need it too and win it…

Rule 5:

If it drops, and you need it, and you win it, and you get it, then please see rule Rule 1 for whatever else you need.

Rain’ had terrible luck in the 5 man trial.  In all the runs she’s made – not one time did Marrowstrike (or anything else vaguely useful) ever drop.  Thank goodness for a good guild and ToC-10.  That place has been a blessing.  It’s not that hard – the loot is excellent and best of all?

No jousting.

    Amendment to Rule 5 – If it drops and you need it and you win it, when you equip it you’ll realize:
    1 – it’s not an upgrade after all, or;
    2 – it’s a minor upgrade but it doesn’t go with your current outfit, or;
    3 – it’s a huge upgrade but it’s also as ugly as sin and before the week is out you’ll be re-equipping the inferior (but far more attractive) item.

    Wait, wait! A list of loot rules that doesn’t mention hunters grabbing everything in sight? Ah, how things have changed… Life is good.
    *returns home to laze around in all the gear gobbled up pre-WotLK because I CAN!*

    Zoei, it goes without saying that if there’s a Hunter in the group and the item you’ve been looking for drops, a Hunter will Need roll and win it then DE it in front of you.

    What? We need to DE those items for the Mats we need to level Enchanting. Isn’t that how Need works?

    Oh Cap’n – you should come back to the game. If you did – you’d see how hunters everywhere are having to contend with the Death Knight Class – which is single handedly able to scam gear from hunters, arms warriors *and* tanks with almost complete impunity 🙂

    Wasn’t the outrage about the Death Knight class (before release) that within 24 hours of Wrath coming out you’d see Chat along the lines of 4 DKs LF1M Any Instance…full on Death Knights!

    I dearly love WoW, but I don’t think I could ever go back. The BNet debacle was the final straw for me, and while I quit over a year ago now, being forced to merge my WoW account with a BNet account is not a hoop I want to jump through. Personal reasons (we all have them) but that was the final “hoop” for me.

    I’ve found the Bnet stuff to be pretty tame at the moment. For all intents and porpoises I log in *slightly* differently and have a more streamlined “ecommerce” experience if I choose to buy something from Blizzard. That’s about it. The merge process was painless. Something I *didn’t* expect. But then – I’m used to working with the government – so I expect *everything* to be painfully difficult.

    I work FOR the Government and it’s not much better on this side, either 😉

    I’ve gone past marrowstrike to reckoning 😀 Aim higher!

    You’ll note that I have as well 🙂

    I think the constant fail-boat loot in h-ToC was simply a prod to get Rain’ into ToC-10. Gear there has been wuunderfull…
