Rainchaser finished the Venomhide Raptor Mount questline the other day. It was fun – if a bit light. I kind of expected a multi-month grindathon that had me watching my little venomhide hatchline level up to 60 or something. Instead – he started really small and made it up to German Shepherd size before suddenly becoming ridable. Having this “exta” pet (one that could run along side of me while I was on my ground mount) made me nostalgic for the old days before flying mounts. Having my pet run beside me while I’m mounted has always been something I really enjoyed. Here’s to hoping that Blizzard see’s fit to give it back to us one day.
If you haven’t done it – the Venomhide Raptor Mount Questline starts in Un’Goro and takes around 20 days to complete. It’s not hard. Just more dailies – and simple ones at that. The hardest part of the entire process is when you’re required to build up an immunity to the venom these rare raptors are covered in. That means they need to bite you. A lot.
In the early days of 3.2 you could cruise through Un’Goro and see people standing around naked with 3 or 4 Venomhides beating the crap out of them.
The *catch* is that to successfully get the needed 20 stacks of poison – you have to hit back since the poison won’t proc unless you’re hitting the raptor too. You’ll end up killing a few raptors – so be patient. Most of the early raptor hunters are already through with this part of the quest so you won’t be like Rainchaser – desperately running around the jungle looking for a Venomhide that hasn’t already been aggro’d.
You don’t need to get naked for this quest – but if you’re level 70-80 it’s best to only use weapons that you have virtually no current skill in. After all, a level 80 smaking a level 50 raptor around doesn’t bode well for the raptor. A lot of folks end up going unarmed or use their jousting lances.
So – if you’re like the naked Blood Elf Death Knight I saw standing around for half an hour with a pack of raptors beating the crap out of him. Do yourself a favor.
Just ran across this while reading some blue commentary over on the WoW forums.
Trolls and Worgens Druids will get their own bear, cat, travel, and aquatic forms.
Cool – This has the hint of sense to it and maybe – just maybe – a new bit of lore to go along with it.
Still though – why have a cat form for Worgen? DPS Dawgies would be just fine in my opinion.
With Cataclysm the world many of us have gamed in since 2004 / 2005 is being almost compeltely rewritten. New zones, new races, new starting area quests. While there are a few of us that were hoping that the Horde and the Alliance were going to grow closer, the WoW development staff went on record today to say that this was absolutely not going to happen.
War is getting put back into the World of Warcraft. Both factions are going to be devastated by the cataclysm and hurled into a desperate war for resources. I can’t wait to see the story develop around these changes but have to wonder what it’s going to do to everyone’s perception of “self” in the game. Will the changes in the world and the new directions our factions are going is it going to make some of us push back from the table and say:
New races – new race /class combinations – tons of new quests and a reshaped world. It’s as if the entire game has been remade in such a way to promote the idea of starting over.
and the trailer was awesome sauce….
Desolace is beautiful by the way….
Deathwing’s re-emergence into the world has caused the Cataclysm. As the most powerful of the original 5 aspects he has become the “world breaker” and his return literally shakes Azeroth to its Core.
His return brings the elemental planes (created by the Titans back in the prehistory of the world) back to Azeroth – bringing with them all of the orginal Elementals that had been locked up since the beginning of known time.

“Where’s the Alliance at?” – (Thunderous Applause)
“Where’s the Horde at?” – (Defeaning…Overwhelming Applause)

“Where everyone is rooting for something Cataclysmic to happen”
“We sold out Blizzcon faster than ret Paladins can storm the forums after a nerf”
(Thanks for the shout out to the folks in the military)
After reading MMO-Champions “leaked” story about the content of the next expansion – here are the simpler of some of my thoughts about the changes in the race class restriction changes we may be seeing.
Human Hunter – ( makes sense to me )
Orc Mage – ( more sense – orcs can learn magic )
Night Elf Mage – ( ditto )
Dwarf Mage – ( lol whut? oh okay – it should make sense too – they can read… )
Blood Elf Warrior – ( sure – I mean why not?)
Dwarf Shaman – ( an elementalist or geomancer – sure )
Undead Hunter – ( I could have done without this one … Is the pet dead too? )
Tauren Paladin – ( Their bubble alone will be epic )
Tauren Priest – ( still good to go – no Holy Cow jokes plox)
Gnome Priest – ( yup – thumbs up )
Troll Druid – ( … ) ( okay sure ) ( … ) ( okay wait…get back to me… )
There are some that would argue that class restrictions based on race don’t make sense at all. I’m not one of those – but I’d view these changes as welcome.
Blizzard can offer swag like this at Blizz-fest – but I still can’t play a level 80 Pandaren Brewmaster that can dual wield 2H Sledges of Rocky Mountain Spring Water.
Have a great weekend 😉
